The year that was…

Text

Have been wanting to do this for a long time now. A recap of last year. 2009 was a pleasant year. No fear of exams as I didn’t give any of them ! Work was good too. With half the year spent in the USA, I should say I had more than enough to learn from ppl out there. Those months truly changed the way I see both career and life, though I didn’t become much of fan of the lifestyle there. I prefer the Indian way to anything. Cons… I lost the habit of reading books, grew fat :( and ended up a petty disturbed guy in life. Learnt from it…made sure the year ended well with me getting back full fledged into work, finding a new place to live in the city, got my personal space back after two and a half years and went Ina few trips to Bangalore and then the lovely Goa trip for Christmas. Well, without fun, you just die from within. And in those terms, the end of last year was a true awakening for me and also helped me take a good look at what I want the days to come to look like. Cheers to 2010 :)

Watching Sherlock Holmes reminded me of something really important in my career. Detail. There is nothing Holmes doesn’t know about his field. And that which he doesn’t, he never wastes a second to find out. If I do that in whatever field I am working in, in each new task and job, all through my life, wouldn’t I be the one of the geniuses they talk about and remember ? Like Holmes. Well, perfection isn’t probably possible. But the closer you get to it, the better life will be

perfect…

Text

What is a perfect happy life all about ? Is it the way most of the world sees it ? Study well, get a higher degree, find a perfect match, get married, have kids, earn a lot, see your kin happy, and make ur kids do all the above in their life and retire in peace to die. Well, I guess that’s the idea of a perfect life to most(all) of us. It isn’t wron to some extent. Just that it ain’t perfect for me if atleast one of these weren’t the best you could have got or made. Then you would say, that’s impossible and no one’s life is perfect. That’s right. No one and none’s life is etched in gold. We have to etch it oursleves and without any tools at hand. That’s where I am getting into trouble right now. It’s how quick you find a way to sculpt your masterpiece is what matters. Well a little retrospection once in a while doesn’t hurt :) always something to learn.

Aha! Okay, the chart I’m looking for looked like this, but with all of America’s industries compared, not banks.

A typical 8am morning in chennai. Shops opening up at ease. The slight breeze makes the start of the day pleasant. That’s a gift as it’s inadvertently gonna be a hot day ahead. Tens of employees waiting for their pickup vehicles. Some lucky ones still snoring away on their beds. Local trains seeing the worst crowd of the day as workers sojourn from one end of the city to another. The roadside tea shops and food stalls handling the morning rush. Kids heading to school in buses and barefoot. Elderly souls returning from their morning walks. The empty roads are a joy to drive on. Sitting in an office cab, listening to my fav songs, the sight of the city stepping into it’s busy day is worth savoring. Also love the return journey in a city bus on the mornings after an allnighter in office. Everything looks so …. Alive ! There’s no denying that I do love something about this city.

ToDo or NotToDo

Text

The ToDo list on my touch is growing incessantly off late. It even drove me to the point of believing that I, a so-called branded workaholic, is wasting his life doing everything other than the stuff in the list. It sucks to feel that way. You really feel like a coward when your own conscience says that you are one ! Well…realized it isn’t that bad after all. After a relentless day of painful, mind-twisting, concentrated and of course, successful day at work, I realised there were enough things adding up to it which wouldn’t ever let it go down satisfactorily (to me). I was doomed to stay in hell and camp ! Later it struck me that the day that list goes empty, I’d be jobless and start freaking. The thought of that had a worse effect than the thought of being busy in hell. Gave up, took up the list, started working and am happy as ever again…call me a workaholic ! Hell I am one ! :)

Aamir Khan blogs after a long time. And he has bad news for us. He and Kiran, his wife, lost their baby due to miscarriage. He says he’ll be off for a while and needs time to heal before he can get back. We are sorry for you Aamir….
